The Dusky Pionus (Pionus fuscus) is also sometimes called the violet parrot. They have beautiful pink/purple feathers on their chests and stomachs. They have dark colored beaks with horn colored sides. Their feet are gray. They are one of the smaller Pionus. Dusky Pionus are 9-10 inches long and weigh 185-200 grams. Both males and females look identical and so surgical or DNA sexing is required. Dusky Pionus are rather difficult to breed in captivity, and as a result are sadly becoming increasingly hard to find in the pet market.
